This centrally located Asian country shares borders with Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma and Malaysia making it the heart of the backpacker belt. Officially known as the Kingdom of Thailand it is a parliamentary democracy and is still run by a King today. Known for their excellent cuisine, Thailand has 65 million people and is the 51st largest country. Bangkok, the capital, is where all political, commercial, industrial and cultural things come to collide. Thailand experienced major growth up until 1996 and ranks second for quality of life in ASEAN.
